Composition

ISO 1600 f 2.8 1/125 35 mm

Rule of Thirds : I tried to get the candle in the one third spot, there was some limitation by the focal length as I wished to get closer.  I kept the hands in focus.  The exposure and focus look ok !

ISO 64   f 2.4   1/3000 35 mm.

Isolate: This was taken in wind and I am glad that the exposure and focus turned out.  One version taken at f 13 looks like a better composition overall, but the background is more in focus thus it does not isolate the subject in the foreground as well.  I apologize that the photo theme is out of order, technical issues…

ISO 64, F 16, 1/125.  35 mm lens.

Fill the Frame : The corn fields surrounding my house were harvested this week, and I wandered around through them with my dog before the last rows were cut. I like this photo as is, the darks and lights balance each other, and the colors of the drying corn come through.

ISO 64 F16 1/30 35 mm

Viewpoint : I like the idea of this composition, and I’m working on getting into focus a moving target !  Also I am at the limit of my lens’ ability at focus at close range, so I am looking at other lenses.  I think the focus is pretty good but not perfect, this may be in part from the wind.  The exposure of my dog is not great, we were in the shade and the tree up in  the sun, and I did not consider this, so I would choose different lighting in a redo.  Interesting challenges.  I would like to re-do this with a longer exposure time to capture the movement of the leaves in a swirly blur, and I wish I had thought of that at the time.

ISO 64 5.6 1/90 35 mm

Framing : The fence works well as a frame and the tree in the background is a bonus, and fortunately I captured the grass under the tree so it does not appear that it is growing out of the dog. I like the soft bokeh of the background. I might lighten this up slightly with editing.  The cedar fence has a really nice range of neutral colors !

ISO 3200 f8 1/24 35 mm

Leading Lines : The light and the fence both create lines in the direction of the tractor’s travel.  I used a tripod and the focus is pretty good on the trailer.  This is one of the more interesting photos I captured of the harvest this week.

ISO 3200 f 6.8 1/45 35 mm

Symmetry : I created this scene on a rainy day in a very poorly lit room.  I like that the front sneakers are in focus and the soft bokeh of the others in the background. I would lighten the exposure in LR.

ISO 640 f 13 1/180 : 35 mm

Depth : I appreciate how the scene has so much in focus, it gives a sense of depth of field.  I think the focus could be sharper and that is due to my limitations as a learner.  I even like the color aberration in the upper left.

Reflection : This assignment I completed over the week in various settings. I worked in manual mode with a 35 mm lens. No post editing. I am working with a new camera and learned a lot about getting focus and exposure with it. I realized that my next lens will allow for closer shots of subjects. I love this 35 mm lens for everything it does.

In terms of composition, this was a fun assignment. I worked in various places throughout the week, mostly around my home and surrounding farmland. There was a variety of light throughout the week and times of day that made me think of how to work with the curent conditions. On the rainy day, I worked inside and found subjects to fit the themes.
